MY TOP 3 CORE EXERCISES YOU NEED TO BE DOING & WHY

Written by Darren Jones

  1. Dumbbell Renegade Rows
  2. KettleBell Suitcase Carry
  3. Dual kettlebell Front Rack Carry

So how should we train the core? Firstly, doing endless repetitions of sit ups whilst accumulating a back ache is not quite going to cut it.  We need to do better and we can! We first need to understand the role that the core plays and how it serves us. The core is responsible for stabilizing our trunk so our arms and legs can perform functional movements for everyday activities, but more importantly when we are within the Gym walls.

 What is our Core?

We have what I like to refer to as Oblique Slings

  1. Anterior Oblique Sling
  2. Posterior Oblique Sling
  3. Lateral Oblique Sling

These all make up a corset that wraps around our trunk internally and externally which is why when it comes to exercise selection for core conditioning, I would pick an exercise that challenges the core to stabilize whilst working through full range of movement or a carry variation which challenges our posture whilst under load.
